Apr 16 10am – noon (no class Apr 9)
Learn surface decoration using sgraffito. Sgraffito is a surface decoration technique whereby you apply a colored underglaze to nearly bone dry greenware, then carve through the underglaze to create your design. STUDENTS MUST BRING AT LEAST TWO, NEARLY BONE-DRY PIECES TO WEEKS 1&2. Porcelain highly recommended, or white stoneware without sand or grog. Pieces may be wheel-thrown or hand-built. Weeks 1 & 2 will be devoted to learning and practicing the technique. Week 3 will be finishing pieces and glazing. Cone 6 clay preferred, but Cone 10 is acceptable. (6 students)
