Betty Storm (1918–2007)

Elizabeth (Betty) Jane Storm, master potter and artist, passed away on October 13, 2007, in McKinleyville with her daughter Katherine by her side. Born December 14, 1918 in Cincinnati, Ohio, Betty moved with her family to San Fernando Valley during the Great Depression to a chicken ranch where she acquired a marked aversion to grilled poultry that stayed with her throughout her life. She remained a Southern California girl until the early 70s, when she moved to Gold Beach, Oregon. Later she would move to Ashland, Oregon, and graduate from Southern Oregon State University along with her daughter and granddaughter—a truly rare trifecta!

Betty was a longtime member of the Fire Arts family, serving as the Center's matriarch. Her powerful presence, kind spirit, unique artistic style, and incredible energy will be sorely missed by all of us at Fire Arts. Betty's life and work will be celebrated at the Fire Arts Gallery throughout the month of January 2008.
